In 2021, our school received a grant to implement initiatives aimed at addressing the digital divide and supporting learners at risk of educational disadvantage. This was part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), a project under the Recovery and Resilience Facility funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU.

This funding allowed us to purchase a second set of class Chromebooks and a mobile interactive screen for our support teachers. The additional Chromebooks mean that more pupils now have daily access to devices, supporting independent and collaborative learning across all subject areas. The interactive screen, which can be shared between Special Education Teachers (SETs), has already become an invaluable resource, enabling more engaging, visual, and interactive lessons tailored to the needs of individual learners.

Technology has long been embedded in our teaching and learning but these new resources further enhance our capacity to deliver innovative and inclusive lessons. The Chromebooks give pupils access to a wealth of digital learning opportunities, while the interactive screen ensures that support teaching is dynamic, flexible, and responsive to the needs of our students.

The impact of the EU Digital Divide Grant extends beyond access to devices. It has fostered contemporary teaching approaches, strengthened student engagement, and promoted independent and critical thinking. Teachers are now better equipped to personalise learning experiences, while students benefit from greater opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and digital skill development.

We are very grateful to the European Union for recognising the importance of bridging the digital divide and for supporting our school with this invaluable grant. This investment is helping us prepare students for a future where digital competence is essential, ensuring every child has the tools to excel and reach their full potential.

This school now has high speed broadband connectivity through the Department of Education School Broadband Programme, delivered as part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) under the Recovery and Resilience Facility funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU.
