Welcome to Ms. Dolan's 2nd Class!!
September/October
It was an exciting first half term back to school for Second Class! We welcomed two new boys, Anas and Ayoub and they are settling in really well. We learned lots about autumn and about space. We painted some autumn squirrels and even designed and constructed our own spaceships!! We did some very creative narrative writing and wrote some very spooky stories! We also took part in a cursive handwriting competition (we can't believe how neat our writing is now!)
We learned about schools and homes in the past and about different festivals around the world.
One of our favourite days in September was our FUNDAY FRIDAY!! We took part in so many fun activities such as obstacle courses, making toffee apples, garden games, lawn bowls and of course Splash the Teacher!
Another of the big highlights of this half term was Maths week! We took part in many fun maths activities including a Hit the Button competition, Maths trail, and a quiz in the hall!
Have a lovely safe Halloween break everyone!
Welcome to Ms. Dolan's 1st Class!
(Fáilte go rang a 1!)
January:
As part of both SESE and our report writing in English we learned lots of facts about all different kinds of animals. Check us out painting one of our firm class favourites!
Later in January we created our own images of winter trees using pastels.
October:
Check out our cool costumes on our spooky Halloween walk!!
September:
It was so nice to welcome 1st class back after the summer! Everyone returned in great form and we quickly kicked off our recount writing with 'Our Summer Break Highlights'!
Also in September we worked hard on our number skills as well as brushing up on all our Mé Féin vocabulary as Gaeilge. To tie in with this we completed beautiful self portraits!
We were all very excited when Ms. Spillane announced that there would be a Teddy Bears Picnic and we had a day filled with teddy activities in preparation for the main event! We then had a go at the fun obstacle course before relaxing in the garden with a lovely picnic!
We also welcomed a new boy to our class this year. We are delighted to have you Luis!
Well done 1st class on a very sucessful first month back! Maith sibh!

November/December
Senior Infants had a fantastic end to what was a strange and challenging year for all.
They were doctors nurses and dentists in Aistear, became experts in writing narrative stories, learnt all about length and height, and even took part in their very own virtual Christmas play!
The Science trail and art competitions (brought to us by 6th class!) were also big highlights!
Then to top it all off, they received a visit from a very special someone....
September/October
It was so great to see all the children arriving back in September after such a long time away from school.
Everyone cam back in great spirits and we have had a fantastic start to the year!
We've been working hard on our reading and writing and on our number practise, as well as exploring all the different 2D shapes around us!
In Aistear we've been learning all about the post office. The children have been designing stamps, writing post cards and letters, addressing envelopes, and posting them in our very own classroom post office! They've also been constructing post boxes, post offices and post people, using a variety of materials! We've had great fun!!

It will be LIVE at 11.30 am today and you can watch it here:
I am going to miss you LOTS over the summer holidays but Ms Costello says that maybe I can come in and visit you all when we go back to school!

Our final Scotty's Gallery of the year...
Thursday 25th of June 2020
Today is your second last day in Junior Infants! Can you believe it? I'm going to be going into Senior Infants in my teddy school and I'm a little bit nervous about it but I am also so excited that I will get to see my friends again! Some things are going to be a little different- I might have a different classroom and I will probably have a different teacher; but that's super exciting too because I get to explore a new room and get to know a new, lovely teacher!
I am so happy that the sun has come back out. Hopefully it will stay for a little while! I was already out enjoying some of the sunshine this morning and I was very careful to put sun cream on and to wear a sunhat to protect my face-I'm a sun safe superstar!
Ms Costello asked me to remind you that our last Junior Infants Zoom call for this year will be today at 1.30 pm. Ms Costello is very excited to see you and there's someone else who is looking forward to talking to you all as well!
There are some nice activities for today, if you click on the blue button. If you didn't get to join our quiz on Monday, you can try it out for yourself today!
I hope that you enjoy the sunshine and I might see you all later!

Have you been doing any of this week's activities? I'm trying to complete the Bingo board. I've done some Cosmic Yoga and 3 GoNoodle activities and now I'm going to help Ms Costello make a Thank You card for Carmel because she helped her so much all year! She's going to give the card to Carmel when we go back to school.
Do you know what's happening tomorrow? Ms Costello has organised a Virtual School Tour for Junior Infants-you have to guess where you're going! You'll find out tomorrow morning!
Have a lovely day!

Have you been counting your steps or checking the distance of how far you've walked this week? Let Ms Costello know if you have! Yesterday, I walked 10,831 steps!! So far this week, I have walked nearly 25,000 steps! There's someone in your class who has been walking a HUGE amount of steps too-even more than me...Ruby has walked 10,000 steps EVERY DAY! Which means so far this week, she has walked 30,000 steps-AMAZING! Zaitoon has also been doing LOTS of exercises and was even having running races with her brother-SUPER WORK! |
It's so lovely to hear about everyone keeping active! Keep it up and have a lovely day!

P.S.: Ms Costello asked me to remind you that our Junior Infants Zoom call is at 11 am this morning and Mr Nolan is hosting a Sports Quiz Zoom Call
at 12 pm today!
Also, send in any photos for my gallery tomorrow!
Wednesday 17th of June 2020
Hello everyone and happy Wednesday! We are halfway through the week already-can you believe it?
When we were in school, we had something called WOW Wednesdays-Walk On Wednesdays! It's great to go out for a walk every day but I'm going to make a big effort to go for a long walk today! It's so nice to get fresh air, see some new things and get exercise while you're doing it!
Yesterday, I made my own 'Positivity Jar'. I used a plastic cup because I couldn't find any jars and I drew some pictures and wrote some sentences about things that make me happy. Ms Costello had to help me to spell some words and she wrote any big words for me. I folded all of the pieces of paper up and put them inside the cup. Then later on, when I was skipping outside, I fell over and hurt my foot! I was feeling very sad and Ms Costello suggested that I choose a piece of paper from my 'Positivity Jar'. So I did and look at the paper that I chose-it was a picture of me and my friend and it made me feel so happy! I'm going to add some more pieces of paper to my jar today!
The teachers that you have to try and beat today are Ms Dolan and Ms Desmond and they have some very tricky challenges! Ms Dolan has also shared some ideas all about healthy eating and Ms Mc Cann has even shared a recipe for a delicious curry! Just click on the button below:
Don't forget that we will be having our Zoom call tomorrow so if your mammy or daddy have not emailed Ms Costello yet and you would like to join the call, they can email her today for the details!
Have a lovely Wednesday!
I can't wait to hear about all of your Sports and Wellbeing work!
Scotty
Have you tried out some of the activities? Ms Costello said that she has already gotten some great videos of children trying to BEAT THE TEACHERS or doing some great exercises! Click on the button to see who in your class beat Mr Nolan in his throwing challenge!
Today's teachers are Mr Kelly and Ms Duggan! Have a look at their challenges and see if you can beat them! Ms Dolan has some lovely ideas for 'Talk about it Tuesday' also. Click on the button to find out more:
I tried out some of the activities yesterday. I started off with one of Ms Dolan's meditations and then I tried to complete some of the Bingo board. I have 3 squares crossed off already! Ms Costello timed me and I hopped 36 times in one minute, I read a book and I tried 2 new fruits- a strawberry and a blueberry! I had never tasted either of these fruits before but guess what-I LOVED THEM! They were so delicious that I ended up eating lots of them!
I'm off now to make my own 'Positivity Jar'. You'll find out all about it in the activities section for today!
Have a lovely day!

There will be some lovely stories, a Bingo game, meditations and there is even going to be 'Beat The Teacher' challenges to try out! I can't wait! I've started my week with some Gaelic football practise and I'm going to try out some of the activities now! I hope that you have fun trying out the activities too!

Well done to all Junior Infants again this week! We have had a fantastic week full of fun and learning and all of the teachers have been so impressed with everyone's effort! You can see some of the fantastic photos above!
Unfortunately today is the last day that we will be celebrating Multicultural Week but there are still plenty of activities to complete both on the Junior Infants link and on the Multicultural Week website. Today's continent is North America! Ms Spillane has worked very hard all week, on lots of lovely Multicultural videos and activities, so we need to say a big WELL DONE and THANK YOU to her!
There is still time to enter the Multicultural week Art competition. Click on the button below to find out more:
I hope that everyone has a lovely weekend and let's hope that the sunshine comes back to us!

We also have a very talented D.J. in our class who has kindly organised some music for a Multicultural disco today! So get your dancing shoes on and have a listen:
Ms Costello said that if you were at school today, you would be having a Multicultural Food Fare! Unfortunately we can't do that altogether but you could still celebrate it at home if you would like to. Have a look at this video to see how some of the Scoil Treasa Family are celebrating:
Today's continent is Australasia/Oceania and there are lots of new activities to try out! Have fun and don't forget to send any photos or videos of your work to Ms Costello!

Au revoir!
Scotty
Have you tried out some of the activities? I've been busy practising Susan's dance-it's so much fun! I love the song as well! I listened to the beautiful story of The Water Princess yesterday. The pictures were so lovely in it and I saw lots of Dolch words when I was following the words! I included a photo of my favourite picture in the book in the gallery below!
Today's continent that we are going to learn all about is South America! There are lots of lovely activities to do if you click on our Junior Infants Activities button at the top of the page and you can also find more activities on Ms Spillane's website by clicking on the button below:
There is a very exciting Zoom call for the whole school today at 2pm. The AMAZING ARTIST Ms Slammon is kindly hosting the Zoom call and is going to be teaching us all about Aztec Art! I can't wait for it! You will need an ID and password to join the call so if your Mammy or Daddy don't have this, they can email Ms Costello and she will send it on to you!

It is going to be a very fun week this week learning about lots of different countries and their cultures and traditions! Ms Costello will be sharing ideas everyday if you click on the button at the top of the page as usual or there's also a website that Ms Spillane has put together with LOADS of fun ideas. If you click on the button below, it will bring you the website. There, you'll find a very exciting video to start off the week and you might even recognise some of the faces in it...
This is always my favourite week of the year in school! There are so many different cultures around the world and in our schools and every one of them are fabulous! Of course we embrace and celebrate all of our cultures every day, but this is a lovely week to learn a little bit more about other countries and some traditions that other people follow! I hope that you enjoy the week as much as I do.
Have a look at Ms Costello's activities and Ms Spillane's and pick which ones that you think you will enjoy! There will also be some children from Scoil Treasa Naofa showing you how to do some fun and exciting things and keep an eye out for some special Zoom calls with dancing and Art!
Please send on any photos or videos to Ms Costello about any country, culture or traditions that you know about or have experienced or any activities that you complete during the week! There's still time to send on your Scoil Treasa Showcase video or photo as well to [email protected]
I hope you have lots of fun!
Slán! Ciao! Ma'aasalaama!
Scotty
We are going to be celebrating Multicultural Week next week and as part of it we are going to try learning a new dance! Somebody that you know from school has kindly made a video teaching us all of the moves and you'll never guess who it is... SUSAN!!!
Susan is an amazing dancer and she is going to take us through the steps of a dance routine that we can practise at home. So you can get your dancing shoes on over the weekend and practise it for next week! If you click on the button below, it will bring you to the school website homepage where you will find Susan's dance video-HAPPY DANCING!
Don’t forget to record a video or take a photo of you doing something that you are skillful at and send it to [email protected] so that it can be added to the whole school video showcasing all of Scoil Treasa Naofa’s talents and skills!
Have a lovely weekend!
Chat to you all on Monday!

I was also playing a game to practise my Dolch words-it was lots of fun! I had to read the words and then I would close my eyes and Ms Costello would take one of the words away and I had to guess which one! Look at the photos before and after below and see if you can figure out which words Ms Costello took!
Don't forget to send on any photos for tomorrow gallery!
I'm off to try out the reading challenge for today before it starts raining-reading outside!
Have a lovely day and I'll chat to you tomorrow!
Scotty
Ms Costello has put up lots of activities for us to try out again this week, but she told me that it's very important to still practise my Phonics sounds and some reading as well. So after I practised tying shoelaces yesterday, I went onto the Oxford Owl website and read (with some help from Ms Costello) a great book called: What's the weather like today? It tells you about lots of different types of weather and we had some chats about what you can do in the different types of weather as well! Click on the picture of the book if you would like to read the same story!
I'm still looking for a book with numbers so that I can complete yesterday's reading challenge!
I hope that everyone is enjoying practising their chosen skills as well-I can't wait to see which ones you choose!
I decided not to put up a Lego challenge today because I think it would be more fun to focus on the reading challenges instead, but I might share some more Lego challenges later in the week-you'll have to wait and see!
Have a lovely day!

Hello Junior Infants!
Welcome to June! Can you believe it? Your last month in Junior Infants! Ms Costello said that you have all had a great year so far and I'm sure the month of June is going to be just as great!
If we were still in school, we would be doing lots of fun activities and the teachers in Scoil Treasa Naofa want to make sure that it is still a fun month for all of the children! So the activities that Ms Costello is sharing today are more fun based and this week are tying in with the school theme of 'The Scoil Treasa Showcase'! There are some fun skills based activities to do and there's still some optional ideas if you'd like to keep up with a little bit of schoolwork!
Get thinking about what skill or talent you would like to showcase and make a video of it (you can even get some of your family to join in!). When it's ready, don't forget to send it to [email protected]

I hope that you all have a FABULOUS weekend and don't forget to keep an eye out for the Falcon 9 rocket, hopefully it will be able to take off tomorrow night!
|
The rocket is called Falcon 9 and there was going to be two astronauts on board in a capsule called Dragon. Unfortunately, they couldn't take off last night though, because the weather was too bad. Everyone was very disappointed but they are hoping that if the weather is better at the weekend, they will be able to take off Saturday or Sunday. And guess what! If it does take off, we might even be able to see the rocket in the sky flying over Ireland! If you want to find out more about this mission, click here! |
Don't forget that we have our Zoom call today. If you would like to join us and don't have the details, ask your Mammy or Daddy to email Ms Costello before 11 am!
|
Have you seen the Phonics website that Ms Costello shared details about on the activities sheet? It's called Phonics Play and there are lots of great games to play on it! If you click on Phase 2 when you're in the website, you can play games about our sounds and our Dolch words! The Tricky Words Truck Game is a great way to practise your Dolch words. It's super fun as well because you can choose the type of truck you want to use, the colour of it and even where it is driving!
Ms Costello asked me to pass on a message to you as well. She asked me to say a huge WELL DONE to everyone as always for all of their hard work-both the Junior Infants children and their families! It isn't easy being at home all of the time and trying to do school work at home but you are all doing a FANTASTIC job and should be very proud of yourselves!
|
We will be having another Zoom call tomorrow so if you would like to take part, ask your Mammy or Daddy to email Ms Costello and she will send you the login details!
Have a lovely day!
Scotty
I was busy yesterday creating a set of instructions for Marsy to wash his hands. Ms Costello helped me out a little because I couldn't write the title or some of the sentences. But she left spaces for me to try and write some of the words. So I wrote some of the Dolch words that I know and I was even able to spell out some words all by myself like tap...t-a-p!

The weather on Saturday wasn't very nice. It was very windy and it rained a little as well. So we only got to go out for a short walk.
I spent some of the day practising my reading! Have you seen the Oxford Owl website that Ms Costello shares books from? There are SO MANY books to choose from and Ms Costello let me choose whatever books I wanted to! It was great fun! (If you need the login details they are on the activities sheet in the reading section!) Some books had lots of Dolch words that I knew and I could sound out most of the words but there were some books that had tricky words that Ms Costello had to help me with. My favourite book was called 'Can You See Me?'. Can you see any of our Dolch words in that title?
I also have another little surprise for you today.
If we were in school today, it would have been our Junior Infants assembly. Unfortunately you can't celebrate it together, but we can still celebrate all of the FANTASTIC work that you have done so far this year! We still have a few weeks to go in Junior Infants but here's a little look back at all of the work that you have done already!
It's such a special video that you need to use a password to get to see it.
Ms Costello has sent the password in an email to your parents!
Enjoy and have a lovely weekend!
Scotty

Another amazing week on IXL! Ms Costello said that you have answered nearly 16,000 questions altogether!!
|
e-eggs in the pan, e,e,e...
h-I like to hop, hop, hop up and down...
r-see my puppy rip the rag...
m-the mum and the dad make many meals...
d-see me play on my drum...
g-the water gurgles down the drain...
o-now it's dark the lights go on..
I'm going to make a poster now for 'o' because there's an 'o' in my name! After I do that, I'm going to try writing out some of the words from the Jolly Phonics list and reading them by sounding them out t-a-p...tap!
Tuesday 19th May 2020
|
It's lots of fun investigating with capacity. I hope that you have fun too!
As always, I have included a Lego challenge today if you would like to try it out!
Have a lovely day and enjoy all of the sunshine (hopefully!)

I had a lovely weekend. I went for some nice walks, read some story books and used my blocks to build different things. I even went on to the Oxford Owl website and tried to read some books on my own!! I wasn't able to read all of a book but I could sound out some words and some of our Dolch words were in the book so I was able to read them! There's lots of different books to choose from on that website so you don't just have to look at the ones that Ms Costello suggests. You can click on this button to bring you to the website. When you get there, click 'My Class Login' at the top of the page and enter:

Did you look at the different recipes in the activities? I was thinking yesterday about all of the things that I do during the day where I follow instructions and I gave Ms Costello some different instructions during the day. I didn't write all of them down. Some of them I just said to her. For example, yesterday morning Ms Costello was going to brush her teeth, so I told her to follow my instructions:
Title: How To Brush Your Teeth
You will need: a toothbrush, some toothpaste, and a tap with some water
1. Squeeze a small bit of toothpaste onto your toothbrush (about the size of a pea).
2. Put your toothbrush under a running tap for 2 seconds.
3. Put the toothbrush on your teeth and move it in circles. Make sure to get all of your teeth-even the back and bottom of them!
4. When you have brushed ALL of your teeth, spit the toothpaste into the sink.
5. Take a little drink of water to rinse your mouth out and then spit the water into the sink.
I completed 4 of the tasks yesterday! So Ms Costello said as my treat that we could bake some flapjacks!
Wednesday 13th May
Good morning! It's Wednesday already can you believe it!? If today is Wednesday, what day will it be tomorrow?
And guess what's happening tomorrow...Ms Costello and Ms Dolan are hosting a Zoom call for your class!! You will be able to see each other and say hello! Ms Costello even said that I can pop on and say hello too!
The call is going to be tomorrow at 12.30 pm. Ms Costello has emailed your Mammies and Daddies with the details but if you're not sure about something, just let her know.

I started with Maths (because that's my favourite subject). Ms Costello and I played the pattern game. I made a pattern for her and she had to fill in what came next in the pattern.
Did Ms Costello answer them all correctly? Pretend that you're the teacher and check :
Then I completed the rocket activity. I got a backpack and I pretended to pack it for a trip to the moon. Here are the things that I brought :
a book (to read on the journey)
a bottle of water (in case I got thirsty)
an apple (in case I got hungry)
a pillow (to sleep on if I got tired)
pencil and paper (to draw what I see in space)
a photograph of my family (in case I miss them while I'm on my trip), toothbrush and toothpaste (to keep my teeth healthy!)
an Irish flag (to show that an Irish person had been on the moon!)
Would you bring the same things?
Finally, I moved on to Phonics and practised the 'ch' sound.
I found some things in my house that start with 'ch'.
I'll give you some clues to what they are :
Unfortunately I didn't get much work done on Friday. I was very tired and I didn't really want to do any work. Ms Costello had a big chat with me and said that it was okay, because sometimes we get a bit fed up and once I am trying my best, that's the most important thing. So after that chat, I tried one task and then I did some artwork because I really like doing Art.
Some days I am able to do LOTS of work and some days I can only do a little bit and that's okay. I am definitely going to try and do something every day, but most importantly, I am going to try my best and some days that will be more than others!
I got up REALLY early on Saturday morning and I went for a walk to see the sunrise. It was so nice and peaceful and lovely to watch the sun rise up into the sky. I took some photos, have a look :
I sat outside for a little while on Saturday as well because it was so sunny. I had to make sure to put sun cream on to keep my skin safe.
The weather wasn't so nice on Sunday so I only went for a short walk. Then I read some story books and made some jigsaw puzzles. It was fun!
I hope that all of you had a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing all of your great work again this week!
Check out today's Lego challenge below...
Have a nice day!

There are activities up for today as always if you click on the blue button and there's a special story about going to space-you might recognise some of the characters in it!
Ms Costello asked me to say a big WELL DONE to the following children who have been answering lots of questions on IXL- Adam, Alannah, Skyler, Abderahim, Kiahna, Alex and Cian-WELL DONE!
I hope that everyone has a lovely relaxing weekend after all of that work and I'll be chatting to you again on Monday!
Take care,
Scotty
I tried to label my pictures. I wrote the first sound of the word and then Ms Costello wrote the rest of the word. I drew a tree, a flower and some grass.
I think that we need the trees to help us to breathe. We need flowers to make everywhere look pretty and so that bees and insects can have food. It took me a little while to think about why grass is so important and then I thought that it's nice for playing and sitting on because it's nice and soft!
If there was no sun, I don't think that we would have any of these things because the sun helps trees, flowers and grass to grow! The sun is very important.
Ms Costello was delighted when she checked IXL this morning and saw that you have answered nearly 14,000 questions altogether!! Well done and keep up the super work!
Ms Costello has also received lots of great photos for our Friday Gallery...someone has built their own rocket using a plastic bottle-wait until you see it! And they've also made a beautiful card for everyone in their class! Don't forget to send your photos to [email protected] if you'd like your friends to see your work in our Friday Gallery!

It's okay to feel sad about this because if you're like me or Ms Costello, I'm sure that there's lots of things that you're missing about school. But it's very important that everybody stays safe and this is the best way to do that. The thing that I miss the most is my friends. Soooo...I'm going to make a card for all of my classmates and send it to my teacher so that she can put it up on the website to show all of my friends! Ms Costello said that she can do the same here! If you'd like to make a card to say hello to ALL of your class just take a picture of it and send it to Ms Costello and I can share it in my Friday Gallery if you'd like?
|
As you can see, I've uploaded our Friday Gallery above with lots of great photos-take a look at all of the super work that some of the children are taking part in! If you would like your photo included, you can still send it to Ms Costello and she will add it in during the day!
Did you practise a skill this week? Ms Costello asked me to share some videos...she was trying very hard all week to juggle three juggling balls-do you think she was able to do it? Have a look and see!
There's also a video of someone in our class and his Mammy doing some GREAT juggling! Take a look at both videos below...
Today's challenge is great fun-a super way to finish off Active Week! --->
|
Ms Costello is going to help me to put up the first FRIDAY GALLERY tomorrow so send her any photos of what you've been up to so she can include them in it! It would be great if there was lots of photos!
I've been busy already this morning working on the number 3!
Do you remember what it is as gaeilge?
It sounds very like it does in English-a trí (a tree)
I've sorted my blocks into sets of 3 and I've made the number 3 using my blocks flat but also standing up!! Take a look below:
I hope that you're staying active in whatever way that you can for Active Week! I'm going to try and balance for 40 seconds today and Ms Costello is going to try and juggle 3 pieces of fruit!! Did you see the video of her juggling 2 pieces yesterday? You'll find the link at the bottom of the activities sheet!
|
PS: Ms Costello has asked me to say a very big WELL DONE to the following children who have been working very hard on their IXL tasks this week...WELL DONE to ALANNAH, SKYLER, ZAITOON, ABDERAHIM and CIAN!
KEEP UP THE SUPER WORK
Wednesday 29th April 2020
Dia dhuit!
Conas atá tú? (Kun-is a-taw too-how are you?)
Tá mé go maith! (Taw may gu mhaw-I am good)
I hope you are all keeping well and keeping active! I can now balance for 25 seconds!! I'm going to try for 30 seconds next. Ms Costello is also practising a new skill-she's trying to juggle! She is using fruit and she keeps dropping it so now she's putting cushions underneath so that the fruit doesn't get damaged if it falls!
I've been busy with the activities that Ms Costello has set. I'm really enjoying blending the sounds and reading words! The more I practise, the better I get! I'm looking out for those words in any books I read as well.
Have you seen this week's Dolch word 'you' written anywhere? I've seen it on lots of ads on the TV and sometimes in the newspaper!
|
I hope that you all have a lovely day!
From Scotty
(PS: Ms Costello said to tell you that she has lots of lovely photos to show you in our gallery on Friday! If you would like your photos to be in the gallery, ask your Mammy or Daddy to send the photos to Ms Costello at [email protected])
Ms Costello told me about yesterday's Active Challenge so I've been spending lots of time practising balancing on one leg. I found it very tricky at the beginning and I was only able to balance for 10 seconds. But after lots of practise...I'm able to balance for 20 SECONDS now! I'm going to try and do it for 25 seconds next!

*FYI* If you're looking for some extra challenges this Active Week, one of the 6th Class children has been working very hard to keep fit and healthy and has set some challenges to others to join in.

Monday 27th of April 2020
Good morning Junior Infants and Happy Monday,
I hope that you all had a nice and relaxing weekend! It's Ms Costello here this morning, I wanted to come on to say hello and I have a few little things to tell you about.
Firstly, can I say how happy I am with all of the work that you're doing on the IXL website. I checked this morning and together you have answered OVER 11,000 QUESTIONS!! That's AMAZING! Keep up the super work!
So if we were at school today, two things would be happening:
1. Our Aistear topic would be changing to 'SPACE'
2. Active week would be starting
But just like our learning...being at home is not going to stop these new things happening! Your activities for the next few weeks will be based on SPACE so you will still get to have lots of fun and learn about all of the planets! And......
.....Mr Nolan has kindly put together some activities that you can take part in at home as part of Active Week! Active week is all about getting your body moving in whatever way you want or can, so instead of a Lego challenge (for this week only), Scotty will share an active challenge each day for you to try out!
Here's today's challenge to get started with:
Good luck with it! You could take a video at the beginning of the week and again at the end of the week to see how much you have improved! I've told Scotty about this challenge and he's already practising balancing on one leg. He was able to do it for 10 seconds the first time that he tried so now he's going to try balancing on one leg for 20 seconds!
Remember to take photos of any work that you're doing and send them on to me at [email protected]
I have been getting some lovely photos so far, and from now on I am going to share any photos that I get altogether in a Friday Gallery on this page!
Today's activities can be found by pressing the blue 'Junior Infant Activities' button at the top of this page!
As always, stay safe and happy :)
Ms Costello
I was also busy yesterday evening with the Lego challenge. It took me a very long time, because it kept falling down but I eventually finished my rocket. Do you like it? I have included today's lego challenge today if you would like to try it!

Thursday 23rd April 2020
Good morning everybody!
Did you see that it was Earth Day yesterday? Everyone was thinking of ways that we can take care of our Earth and WOW wait until you see the poster that one of the children in your class made with her brother:
Isn't it fantastic! Ms Costello was so happy to see that they were working as part of a team!
I have been working hard as well. When I was finished doing some of my activities yesterday, I tried out the Lego challenge with my blocks.
Do you like my rollercoaster? It was tricky to build!
I'm off now to listen to the story of The Lamb Who Came To Dinner! Remember to click on the blue button up at the top of this page to find the activities!
|
This same child has also been working on a special project with her brother. They are creating their own time capsule! We are living through a very unusual and memorable moment in History and what a great idea to record this time with some pictures and information and tuck them away into a capsule to open up in years to come! Her mammy has very kindly shared the link for how to download and print your own booklet. If you don't have a printer at home, why not have a look at the booklet and create your own! Click on the link below to access the booklet:

Wednesday 22nd April
Hola amigos!
(That's 'hello friends' in Spanish, I have a friend from Spain in my class who taught me that!)
How is everyone today? Today is Wednesday already, can you believe it?! Ms Costello has put up some new activities today-if you click on the blue button at the top of the page, you will find them! I've started my day working on some IXL tasks. Ms Costello says that we're very, VERY close to reaching 10,000 questions answered!!!
Wait until you see the spectacular drawing that got sent to Ms Costello yesterday. Kiahna listened to the story of Super Duck and created her very own super hero animal-SUPERDUMBO
Isn't her drawing amazing?!
That's all for now. I'm off to try some of the today's new tasks.
Remember to click on the blue button saying 'Junior Infant Activities' at the top of this page to find them!
Chat to you tomorrow,
Scotty
PS: If you're looking for an extra fun challenge, Ms Costello said that I could share this daily task with you! My friend from school sent it to me and I'm going to try and do it. I don't have any Lego though unfortunately, so I'm going to use my blocks instead! You could use whatever you have in your house-it doesn't have to be Lego! I'll show you how I get on tomorrow...GOOD LUCK! |
Tuesday 21st April 2020
Good morning!
I hope that everyone is well on this lovely sunny morning!
First of all, I have some super news...Ms Costello told me this morning that Junior Infants have answered 8891 questions altogether on IXL! That's amazing!! I wonder if we will get to 10,000 questions by the end of this week...
So I've been working hard on the tasks that Ms Costello set yesterday. I listened to the story of Super Duck-it was very funny! Then I created my own super animal character-SUPERCAT! Ms Costello wrote his name and helped me to label my picture. Do you like his cape? His super power is that he can jump really high into the sky!
Sometimes, Ms Costello needs to go on the computer so I can't be on it all of the time. I like to take a break from it anyway! So yesterday I chose to do the non-computer based task in Maths. Ms Costello gave me some coins and I sorted them into groups. Can you figure out which group the coin in my paw will go in?
We also played a matching game, where we turned all of the coins upside down so we couldn't see the numbers and we took turns to find matching pairs-it was great fun!
A little surprise for your Tuesday... Ms Costello got sent some photos of a Junior Infant who has been VERY busy over his Easter break. He has been a painter, a pizza chef AND a gardener! Take a look at the photos below...
I hope that you all have a lovely Tuesday! Don't forget to click on the blue button at the top of the page for activities and send Ms Costello on some photos of your work if you would like to see them on the website!
Bye for now!
Scotty

Birthday Boy
Someone wanted to share some photos with you to show you how he spent his birthday-look at how happy he is! Can you spot the photo where he is flying?!?
He can't wait to see all of his friends and to party with them!
Did you all have a nice Easter break? I did! The weather was so lovely so we went for short walks each day to get fresh air and exercise. We had to be careful to stay a little distance away from people but I would wave and smile at people to stay friendly.
I was very lucky on Easter Sunday because guess what...the Easter bunny came and left me an Easter egg! I was so happy! Ms Costello was a little sad because the Easter bunny didn't leave her any eggs but I think that's because she is an adult. She was very happy when I shared some of my Easter egg with her though, and I felt happy for sharing!
When we had eaten up all of the chocolate and gone for a walk,we were trying to find something else to do. Ms Costello found some blocks in the cupboard so I started building a tower with them and then I decided to use them to make some letters. Can you guess what I was trying to spell?
Anyway, after a lovely break, it's back to some schoolwork today. I'm very excited because my teacher in Teddy School says that I can do the same work as Ms Costello's class! Did you see the new button that Ms Costello put in at the top of this page? I'm going to click it now and try some of the activities!
Can't wait to see more pictures of what you have all been up to...
Take care,
Scotty

Some fantastic Easter artwork to brighten up your day!
A fabulous poster, made by one of the children in our class, to thank all of the AMAZING people who are working so hard to help everyone:

Hi Junior Infants!
If we were in school today, we would be getting a half day because we would be getting our Easter holidays! You will still be getting your Easter holidays today so Ms Costello says you don't have to do any school work for the next two weeks (unless you'd like to!) I'm going to take a break too and spend lots of time with my family doing things that I like and helping them out in any way that I can!
Ms Costello has some fun ideas if you'd like to do any Easter activities:
Songs:
Hop, hop, little bunny https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPaaDjhVKqk
Bunny Counting Song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tyyh8rhwKQ8
Story:
How To Catch The Easter Bunny https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC-hZk9jbc4
Arts and Crafts:

Easter Egg Hunt: You could also make your own Easter Egg hunt! Why don’t you draw lots of pictures of Easter eggs and colour them in. Have an adult help you to cut them out and then hide them around the house for someone to find!
Here are some more ideas:

Good morning Junior Infants! How is everyone today? Good, I hope! As always, I've been on the hunt for some letters this morning and today they are tricky letters to find: z, w and v! I'm still looking because I haven't found them yet but I have been singing the songs 'Drive Vic's van round the village, drive Vic's van round the village...'
You'll find all of the songs here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2HYM9VXz9k
I've been trying to make sure that I am active lots during the day! I've been doing lots of GoNoodle activities but I found this new game to play as well. It's great fun! I choose a number and Ms Costello chooses an insect and we have to do the exercise for that amount of seconds. Eg: If I choose 8 and Ms Costello chooses a worm, we have to wiggle like a worm for 8 seconds! You could find a different way to play it!

Ms Costello has been telling me about all of the people who have been working EXTRA hard in the last few weeks to make sure that everyone stays healthy and safe-doctors, nurses, cleaners, all healthcare and hospital workers, pharmacy workers, shopkeepers, delivery men and women, postmen and women, gardaí, firemen and women, the army and many, many more! They are all doing an AMAZING job and I decided to make a poster for them to say a big thank you! Ms Costello did the writing for me and I coloured it in and drew pictures. Then we stuck it up on the window so people could see it as they pass my house! You could try the same to say thank you!
Ms Costello was also telling me about all of the children who have been working hard on IXL yesterday and today-well done Lennox, Cali, Taha, Zaitoon, Kiahna, Cian and Ruby! Together as a class, you've nearly answered 5000 questions!
Finally, I have a special surprise for you today. Ms Costello got this video yesterday and she was very excited to share it with you because this child is saying a lovely hello but also sharing a very important message. Take a look and see if you know who it is:

Bye for now! Scotty PS: If you're lucky enough to have a printer in your house, you could print out this Easter Egg to colour in or if not you could draw your own even better version of an Easter Egg to colour in! Ask someone to email your finished picture to Ms Costello and I can post it up here tomorrow for everyone to see! ![]()

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!
Did anyone play any tricks on anyone in their house? I put tissue in Ms Costello's shoes to make her think that her shoes were too small for her! It was very funny!
So the letters I've been hunting for today are: f', b and j
I've been looking for things that start with those sounds as well but I forgot some of the actions for some of the sounds so Ms Costello showed me this website:
https://jolly2.s3.amazonaws.com/Resources/Jolly%20Phonics%20Actions%20Sheet%20.pdf
It's great to help you to remember the actions!

Ms Costello was so happy again to get a photo of someone's amazing work since they've been at home and this child has also gotten some FABULOUS new glasses! Take a look at how cool he looks below...
As always, children are working hard on their IXL tasks-you have nearly answered 4000 questions altogether!! Keep up the great work! Ms Costello found another lovely story for us to listen to. It's actually quite funny-it's about a duck cycling a bike! Click on the link to have a listen and see if you can answer the questions below!
https://www.justbooksreadaloud.com/ReadToMe.php?vid=DuckOnBike&iP=IndexCategory.php&t=Search&p1=Duck%20On%20A%20Bike&p2=
1. Do you think that this is a true story? Why/why not?
2. Can you name all of the different types of animal that Duck passed by on his bike? There’s 9 of them altogether!
That's all from me for now!
Have a lovely Wednesday :)

Hello Junior Infants!
It's me again-Scotty! Ms Costello wanted to say hello to you yesterday so I took a little break from the website. But I'm back now and I'd like to show you what I've been up to! Today's letters are 'o', 'u', and 'l' and they were actually quite easy to find! I even found some of these letters in cursive writing...

I have been comparing objects that are big and small by playing a game. I choose two objects-one that is big and one that is small (we used the bunny rabbits from this photo). Ms Costello then holds one object in each hand behind her back. I have to choose a hand. If it is the hand with the big object, I win a point but if it has the small object, Ms Costello wins a point. Then I hold the objects behind my back and Ms Costello chooses a hand and so on. It's great fun! We played this morning and I won because I had 8 points and Ms Costello only had 5 points!

Before school finished, we were learning lots of Irish, which I miss doing. So Ms Costello found this song in Irish (Hocaí Pocaí) to cheer me up.It's great fun! Click on the link below to try it out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXpnlXSQcSA
Ms Costello was very excited yesterday when she got to see a fantastic drawing by one of the children in your class. This child drew a fabulous picture of a rabbit as she would like to have a rabbit as a pet and she named her rabbit Florence-isn't that a lovely name?! See if you can guess whose drawing it is!
Ms Costello also asked me to say a big WELL DONE to Ruby who has answered 182 questions on IXL! As a class you have now answered over 3000 questions-WELL DONE!!
Finally, as you haven't gotten to do Aistear in a little while, Ms Costello thought that you might like to have a chat about the farm and see if you can remember some of the words that you had discussed before you finished up school! Take a look at the picture below and ask an adult to ask you the questions!
I hope you all have a lovely Tuesday!
Bye for now,

30th March 2020
Hello Junior Infants!
It's Ms Costello here today! Scotty is busy hunting for today's sounds-m, d and g! He just found an 'm' on the tomato ketchup bottle!
I hope you are all keeping well and helping your Mammys and Daddys out. They are working very hard to help you, so it's important to be especially nice to them and help them out in any way that you can!
I am so happy with how hard some people are working on their IXL tasks-you have answered 2619 questions altogether!! Zaitoon has still answered the most questions...877 questions overall! Well done Zaitoon!
I have some good news for you-IXL now has English activities as well! Scotty has already tried some of these tasks and he says that they are great fun! I have put stars beside the activities that I would like you to try in both English and Maths but of course you can try some other tasks as well if you would like!
I know that not all of you will have access to or will enjoy working on computers too much and I am sure that some of you have been completing some great work away from the computer as well. If there is any work that you have completed that you would like to share with me, I would love to see it! You can ask your Mammy or Daddy to send a picture of it to my email address ([email protected]) and I might even show some of your work up here!
I've found a lovely story for you to listen to all about animals called 'Dear Zoo'. Click on the link below to listen! If you're looking for something to do after listening to the story, you could think about what zoo animal you would like delivered to you as a pet. What would you name it? Draw a picture of this animal and ask an adult to help you to write the name that you have chosen!
https://www.justbooksreadaloud.com/ReadToMe.php?vid=DearZoo&iP= IndexCategory.php&t=Short&p1=&p2=
Most importantly, make sure that you are doing things that you enjoy and that you are being kind and helpful to your family during this time.
It's great that you are still doing some schoolwork but if you aren't able to do it for any reason, please don't worry!
Scotty says hello and will be back with more photos tomorrow to show you what he's up to!

Ms Costello :)

IT'S FRIDAY!!
I hope that everyone has had a good week and is ready for some rest at the weekend. I've been busy already this morning hunting for the letters 'h', 'e' and 'r' and I've been practicing writing them also! Take a look at my effort. I didn't have much paper so I just wrote on the back of a piece of paper that was already used.

Junior Infants, I have to tell you how DELIGHTED Ms Costello was this morning. She logged onto IXL and saw that together Junior Infants had answered nearly 2000 questions!! She was dancing around the sitting room, jumping and cheering-it was very funny! She asked me to say a big well done to Zaitoon who has answered 565 questions on her own!!!
I have been completing more tasks on IXL but sometimes I like a break from the computer so I've been practicing making numbers using different things around the house. In school, we used to use buttons and crayons but I don't have buttons at home so I used pasta instead! I wonder is there anything else that I could use?

Ms Costello told me that on Fridays, you usually have Pilates lessons with Louise. Guess what-we did Pilates on Fridays in Teddy School as well! So to keep the same routine, Ms Costello showed me some yoga activities to do on Cosmo Kids! She said that you've done some of these before but she found a special one for your topic of 'The Farm/Vets' in Aistear. I tried it already this morning, it's great fun! Click on this link to try it out:

That's all for today. Ms Costello usually has prizes to give out on Fridays to the children who have been working hard all week, so she will have to give LOTS of them out when we get back to school! I hope you all have a lovely weekend and stay safe!
Love from,
Scotty

Hola amigos!
Happy Thursday! I hope you are all keeping well and busy! I've been on my phonics hunt again today and this time I've been looking for 3 LETTERS!! 'c' ,'n' and 'k'!
'c' and 'n' were quite easy to find but 'k' was tricky so instead Ms Costello found the jolly phonics song for that sound on the computer. I LOVE singing along to the Jolly Phonics songs!

(Don't tell Ms Costello that I was wearing her shoes!)
I also decided to start making patterns with things that I could find around my house. I took a photo of the pattern that I made using fruit, but you could use lots of different things to make your pattern-shoes? socks? toys? books?
Can you guess which fruit will come next in my pattern?

I've missed my teacher reading out new stories since I've been off school :( So Ms Costello found a website that has lots of different videos of people reading out lovely stories. I'm going to try and listen to one every day and think of questions about it. Today I listened to the story of 'Harry the dirty dog'. It's a great story and I came up with 3 questions about it that you could try and answer:
1. What was the thing that Harry did not like?
2. How did Harry get dirty?
3. Why did the family think that Harry was a strange dog?
Listen to the story on this link and see if you can answer these questions or even think of some new questions to ask!
https://www.storylineonline.net/books/harry-the-dirty-dog/
Also, I've been doing some IXL tasks everyday and I can see some more children have been logging on...well done Cali, Adam and Zaitoon! And to the other children who had already logged on and are working hard to answer even more questions-WELL DONE AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
Talk to you all tomorrow, enjoy your evening!

Dia dhuit a pháistí!
How is everyone? If anyone is like me, they might be forgetting what day it is. Guess who flew in my window this morning to ask me...
So if yesterday was Tuesday, today is .....?
I've already been on my phonics hunt this morning. Today I looked for the letters 'i' and 'p'!

I also chose a few items from around the house and sorted them into different sets. Can you work out how I sorted them?

I am being very careful to remember to wash my hands lots with soap and to wash them for at least 20 seconds. My favourite song is 'the alphabet song' so I sing that while I'm washing my hands. Ms Costello has found some videos that she thinks you might like to watch to help you to remember to wash your hands:

Ms Costello has some very good news messages that she would like me to pass on also. Two more children have been working hard on their IXL tasks-well done Alex and Taha!
It's also someone's special day today...a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ERHUN! Hope you have a lovely day celebrating and we will do the birthday boogie whenever we are all back together in class!
Have a lovely day everyone, keep up the great work and keep those hands clean! :)

Good morning Junior Infants!
How is everyone? I hope you are all keeping well! Did you see the IXL website that Ms Costello has set up accounts for? She set up an account for me and I have been having great fun trying out some of the activities. I can see that some other children have been trying out activities too...well done Skyler, Kiahna, Ruby and Alannah! Did you have as much fun as I did?

I've also been keeping up my phonics revision, have you? Today I've been looking for the letters 'a' and 't'!

Finally, I've been trying to help out with some jobs around the house because I know that my family are busy and I want to help them. I've been helping to clean some surfaces. Is there any way that you can help the people that you live with? Why don't you ask them!
I hope that everyone is staying safe and being kind and helpful as always. I'll chat to you again tomorrow!

Scotty

IXL 23/3/20
I am pleased to share with you that during our time away from the classroom environment we will be using a website called IXL.
IXL is a fun comprehensive learning programme offering unlimited maths practice across thousands of skills—all of which are aligned to the national curriculum. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from the comfort of their home and continue to learn and I will be able to observe and respond to their progress.
To get your child started on your home computer, please follow these easy steps:
1. Go to https://www.ixl.com
2. Enter your child's username and password and click "Sign in."
(I will be sending your child's username and password via a Scoil Treasa text message today.)
3. Click on any skill to start learning!
For on-the-go practice, you can download IXL’s free tablet apps for iPad, Android or Kindle and sign in with your child’s username and password. IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The programme is adaptive and will adjust based on your child's demonstrated understanding of the material. All of your child's results will be saved, so you can monitor his or her progress anytime by clicking on Analytics.
Children will need help to log in and navigate this website at first but should be able to complete most of the tasks independently as there is a sound option to read each question!
If you have any questions or need support with any of the tasks suggested, please don't hesitate to email me at: [email protected]
As you are aware, Ms Dolan works with Junior Infants aswell, so feel free to contact her also if you have any queries at: [email protected]

Hello again Junior Infants!
It's me, Scotty! I hope you all had a lovely weekend! I got out for a walk to the park when it was very quiet and no one was there. It was nice to get some fresh air! I have been keeping busy again this morning and I even thought of a new game to play! I'm choosing one of the sounds that I learned about in school and I'm trying to find it written in lots of different places around my house. Today I've started with 's'. Have a look at the photos to see where I found it!

Next I'm practicing writing the letter s (in print) in some rice-like I practiced with my teacher in school! Do you think my 's' is good?

And finally, I've been making sure to keep my body and mind healthy by eating lots of fruit. I hope you're doing the same! I have to go now but I think I'm going to practice writing the letter 's' using some crayons and paper. I'll show you my work tomorrow!
Miss Costello is missing you lots!
Take care,
Scotty

Hello Junior Infants!
My name is Scotty! I'm Ms Costello's teddy bear and my teddy bear school is closed at the minute so I'm at home with Ms Costello for the next little while. I've been trying to do some of the work booklet that my teacher gave me but sometimes I get tired (or a little bit lazy but don't tell Ms Costello!). So I've found some other things to do to keep myself busy and active. Have a look at the photos below to see what I've been doing...

You could try doing some of these things too!
I'm also going to start making a card for my Mammy today, because it's Mothers Day on Sunday and I want to show her how much I care for her. I am going to draw a picture of some flowers and then ask someone to help me to write the words 'Happy Mothers Day' on it.
I am going to make sure to be extra helpful on Sunday too!
I hope that you are all safe and I will write to you again next week. Have a lovely weekend! Ms Costello says hello too!
Love from,
Scotty
(P.S.: Ms Costello told me that it was someone specials birthday on Tuesday-HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIAHNA! I hope you had a lovely day and Ms Costello says not to worry that you will get your birthday homework pass whenever you are back in school!)
(P.PS.: Ms Costello asked me to tell you to tell your Mammys and Daddys...
if you've been practicing your cursive writing in your books, you only need to practice the following letters because we haven't looked at all of them yet!

Hello Junior Infants,
I hope that you are all keeping well and helping out at home...I miss you!
You have your work packs that I gave you last week and here are some more fun ideas to try out while you’re working from home! You will need some help from an adult for some of these tasks...
-Have someone write out the numbers 1-5 on a piece of paper and cut them up. Practice putting them in the correct order and then play the ‘number fairy game’. Take it in turns to hide one of the numbers and have the other person figure out which number it is. Move on to working with numbers 1-10 or even try it out saying the numbers in Irish!
(1 a haon, 2 a dó, 3 a trí, 4 a ceathair, 5 a cúig, 6 a sé, 7 a seacht, 8 a hocht, 9 a naoi, 10 a deich)
-Split a piece of paper into four and draw a healthy meal to have for your breakfast, lunch and dinner. The last square can be for a snack!
-Use some food/toy boxes to make your own houses for different animals. If you have lots of boxes, you could make a whole farmyard!
-Choose 10 of your toys. Can you sort them into different sets/groups? By their size? By their colour? Do they have wheels? Do they make noise? Try again with 10 new toys!
-If you have access to the internet, have an adult type ‘alphablocks’ and a sound from our Jolly Phonics into YouTube and see if you can remember all of the different sounds that we have worked on and words that begin with that sound! Eg: alphablocks a
The Jolly Phonics songs can also be found on YouTube or you could use the Jolly Phonics website to practice the sounds and actions.

I will put some more ideas up over the next few days!

We had great fun dressing up as our favourite book characters for World Book Day!
PANCAKE TUESDAY
Grandparents Day 2020!
Do you need to see a doctor?
As part of our Aistear theme this month, we have been learning all about the Doctor's surgery. The children are having great fun pretending to be doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers and patients! Have a look at some of our photos below!
Well done Junior Infants!
Junior Infants put on a fantastic Christmas show today for all of their parents and guardians. They have been working so hard practicing their lines and singing their songs and all of their hard work paid off today-well done to everyone!
The Post Office
We've been learning all about the Post Office so we wrote our own letters, put them in envelopes with stamps and posted them into our postbox!
