Our Energy Flag
We did it! We all worked hard learning about Energy and learning all the ways we can think about our Energy usage and how to conserve it. We were awarded our Energy flag and some hard working members of the Green School Committee went to DCU to collect it. 4th class also preformed their song 'A Million Dreams for a Greener World' at the awards ceremony. Well done 4th class.

Green Schools
At Scoil Treasa Naofa we have been working hard to attain our first Green Flag for Litter and Waste. We began in 2015 with just a small committee of students and teachers who had big ideas of how to make our school a cleaner, greener environment for all. Since then we have been working hard; planning, doing, reviewing and redoing many things to encourage each and everyone of us to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Our Garden, a little bit more litter free
Last March the very end part of our school garden was a sad and sorry sight. Overgrown, impenetrable and strewn with rubbish. Now it looks very different as the green flag recent trip there found out. This is thanks to Mr. Kelly and 6th class who have cleared and cleaned the area. Thank you to all in 6th class. The green flag can now check this area for litter more frequently.
Another new Green Flag member with our new bins!
Batteries, Batteries, Batteries!
A reminder to everyone to bring your batteries for collection. Boxes are located in each classroom and are to be emptied into the big box outside Claires office. Well done to this 2nd class student who filled a whole box in one go! And to our new green flag member from 4th class for distrubting our new boxes.
Don't forget to check out our school Notice Board for all our updated Green School News.
Action Day in Replay!
Thank you to all that attended and helped out during Action Day! The Green Flag committee worked very hard, along with students in all classes to prepare presentations, songs and even a video for a special assembly. Well done to all those who won awards for their hard green themed work. Also a very special mention to 1st Class A who, according to our weekly bin traffic lights are the greenest class so far at Scoil Treasa. Keep up the good work 1st Class A!
A big thanks also to the parents and people from the local community who took our Green Tour and participated in our green quizs from keen green flag memebers. Also we were so happy to get lots of volunteers who game litter picking in our local area. Because of your help we were able to go further than ever before and manged to collect 6 full size refuse bags of rubbish from the streets around our school.

Welcome Back from the Green schools Commitee

Litter Picking with Fifth Class
Fifth class went litter picking in the local community with some parents and teachers. They collected five refuse sacks of rubbish! Well done fifth class!
Is the Waste in the Right Place?
Everyone at Scoil Treasa has been hard at work binning our waste in the correct place! And our bin monitors have been working very hard to check the bins each lunchtime. Our traffic light system has been working very well. Each class is awarded a light, Green for a super clean classroom with all the rubbish in the right place, orange if the classroom is mostly clean and red if the classroom has lots of waste improvements to make. The bin monitors then record the colour each class get on a weekly chart. These results will help us to analyse our waste and encourage us to do our best.
Which bin does it go in?
Our aim to begin recycling, reducing our waste and increasing our compost began with lots of sign making! The Green Flag Committee recruited some helpers and got to work! Then it was time to inform our school community exactly what being Green was going to Mean! Our committee gave a great performance at Assembly for parents, staff and students. We all understood what it meant to be part of the Green Team at Scoil Treasa.
Green Flag
Litter and Waste
The green flag committee ready to search through our school bins!
When the committee investigated our bins they were happy to find compostable items in the compost bin. However they did find some plastics and wrappers in there also.
Further investigation revealed that our general waste bin contained general waste, compostable items and recyclable items!
And what about our recycling bins? Unfortunately our recycling bins contained nothing :(
Our Aim
The committee then decided that it was time that we start recycling! Please join us as we try to reduce our general waste, increase our recycling and ensure that our compost bins contain only compostable items. We will post regular updates and waste reduction tips on this page. We look forward to making Scoil Treasa a greener environment for all.
