Welcome to Mr. O'Sullivan's 6th Class B

6th Class’ football skills were put to the test twice this term, with the Garda Dublin 8 blitz in St. Catherine’s and the FAI blitz in Bluebell. Both the boys and girls acquitted themselves well throughout, showing fantastic teamwork, leadership, skill, and most of all, attitude. The girls acquitted themselves with particular aplomb in Bluebell, winning 5 out of 6 of their games and scoring a hatful of goals. Looks like we may have a few future Katie McCabes and Chiedozie Ogbenes on our hands in Scoil Treasa Naofa.
We had a busy March, both inside and outside the classroom. As part of the Solas programme and in partnership with the University College Dublin School of Science, 6th Class A and B visited the campus in Belfield to explore what it means to work scientifically. We spent two great sunny days touring around the campus, getting a taste for university life and checking out the wonders of the Science and Earth Science buildings, such as fossils, satellites, the Covid 19 wastewater project and some amazing art works based on the world of science.
Picture
In addition to this, the children spent some time in the laboratory, learning about the scientific method and using the lab equipment to observe, plan and predict an experiment into air pressure and propulsion using bottle rockets – an experiment which we later carried out outdoors.
6th B have been making a concerted effort in literacy in the first term of 2022, selecting interesting vocabulary from fiction and non-fiction and using it flexibly. They have also been busy striving for dramatic perfection with their WOW words mimes and helping create our WOW Word Wall. We have also begun a daily Wordle and Foclach to keep us on our toes.

Visual Art saw the creation of colourful symbols of peace, illustrating and reflecting the attitudes of our class to world events.
6th Class B have been very busy and productive in the period from midterm to Christmas. We participated in the Ways to Wellbeing project which gave us some fascinating insights into the lives of some local people. We interviewed Peter in the school garden, while some of the class visited a knitting circle in Rialto. This was a great learning opportunity which the class grabbed with both hands.
The run up to Christmas has seen 6th Class B revising and studying hard for their Christmas tests, in which all their hard work will undoubtedly pay off.
Over the week of Christmas we wrote, performed, and produced our annual Christmas performance. This entailed a huge effort, organisation, and teamwork from the whole class, in which they showed tremendous spirit, talent and humour. Well done to all involved.

We had a very artistic couple of months in 6th Class B – exploring shape and colour through mosaic collages and creating oil and chalk pastel pictures of the ‘Northern Lights’, after learning about the natural phenomenon of the Aurora Borealis.
Welcome to 6th Class B's page for 2021 - 2022. Below you will find some of the great activities and work we have done, and the fun we have had, in our first term in school.
Picture
On Friday 15th of October we participated in a workshop with Sport Against Racism Ireland (SARI), where the class learned more about racism and discrimination, and how to address these, through sport and games.

Procedural Writing is our writing genre for the month of October in Scoil Treasa Naofa. As part our writing process in 6th class we made berry smoothies. After some trial and error (and no shortage of mess), we settled on a favourite flavour combo of strawberry and raspberry.

Our hurling skills have been developed and tested weekly this term, through training with Jenny from Kevin's Hurling and Camogie club. Some serious competitors in the making below! We also tried to put Pat Horgan's procedural tips on how to play into practice...

Creativity is in high supply in 6th class B and it can seen in some of the art we have worked on and produced in the term - from Japanese Notan art and identity flags to Roy Lichtenstein pop art collages.

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Easter break. As much as we would love to be back in class meeting everyone today, things are going to be different for a little bit longer. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/?selLanguage=en&mode=hub
- Click on the pink My Class Login button at the top of the screen.
- Username= 4thclassb
- Password= 4thclassb
- Click Log in
- Click My Bookshelf
- Search for Dragon Tales and click on the book
- Turn pages using the arrows at the bottom of the screen.
- If some of the words are tricky, if you press the play audio button at the bottom of the screen, it will read the story to you.

We will be discussing the story on Wednesday during our video chat. I would love if you would be able to give me an oral summary of the book. (You do not need to do any written summary!)
Also during Wednesday’s chat I will be talking through any problems you had with Busy at Maths and we will correct some Work it Out together. I hope to see some of you then

I hope you all got your workpacks from school and have been working hard on them. Things are a bit strange at the moment so it’s important that you try to do a bit of work everyday, it will make everything seem a bit more normal for you. Remember, things feel a bit strange for your parents and the rest of your families too so try to help them out any way that you can at home. I hope you all spoiled your Mam’s yesterday!

If you need to contact me about any of the work, send me an email at nslattery@scoiltreasanaofa.ie

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to all of the boys and girls who made their First Holy Communion on Sunday the 20th of May 2018. All of the children worked so hard in preparing for this special occasion and they did everyone proud on the day! Don't they look fabulous :)

ACTIVE WEEK 2018

Mighty March

Did you know that red stars are the coolest and blue stars are the hottest?

Well, neither did we until we started researching about Space! We have lots of other interesting facts in our reports about Space and we also wrote reports about different birds. On top of all of this, we have been learning how to estimate different measurements and measure lengths accurately!

A Fun February!

February was a month of fun in 2nd Class B! We had a great time creating recipes for pancakes just in time for Pancake Tuesday and we were then able to use the recipes to make and decorate our very own pancakes! We have been making a special effort along with the rest of the school to speak 'as Gaeilge' more often so feel free to chat with us in our native tongue! We also worked very hard this month practising our assembly with 2nd Class A and we did ourselves and everyone proud when we performed our short play, song and poem on Friday the 23rd of February!
A Very Happy Start to 2018
2nd Class B have made a great start to 2018! After working hard to collect 10 MEDALS for behaviour and attendance, we were rewarded by having a pizza party on our first week back at school! We really enjoyed the mixture of different toppings while some of us celebrated with hot chocolate instead of pizza. We are already well on our way to another party as in the last few weeks we have won 4 more medals! Also this month, we have taken part in a Cyber Safety workshop and we have been working hard on our Maths skills as part of a team.

A Busy November
We are having a busy November in 2nd Class B! We have been learning all about Brazil and we imagined that we visited the country itself! While we were 'in Brazil' we wrote postcards and sent them to people in our family! We were also very happy to welcome our parents and guardians in to see the wonderful writing that we have been doing in English lessons. We drew our own images of settings but before we showed them our wonderful artwork, we read out a description of the setting and asked our parents and guardians to close their eyes and visualise!

A 'SCARY' Halloween!
Scoil Treasa was a scary place to be on Friday the 27th of October...not a single child from 2nd Class B was to be seen as zombie brides, witches, Darth Vaders and skeletons along with many more interesting characters filled the classroom instead! The children put in such a great effort when dressing up and we had a great day acting in role and even creating some spooky spider biscuits!

Welcome back 2nd Class B!

Welcome back to another school year! The children are as enthusiastic as ever and I can't believe how much they have grown over the summer! We are very lucky this year to gain two new class members and we would like to extend a warm welcome to Sami and Aryan to our class. They have settled in very well already! The children are already completing some great work and as you can see below we have been carrying out some investigations into the colour wheel! There will be lots more exciting things to come this year so keep an eye out on our page...

School Trip to the zoo!

June...Sports Day and ice cream treats!

MAGNIFICENT MAY

Tumbling, rolling, searching for mini-beasts....it's been another busy month! Not only did we go investigating mini-beasts in the garden, but we were lucky enough to have a special visitor called Dale come in with his very own mini-beasts to show us! We have also been practicing our gymnastics skills and found lots of different ways to travel across the mats! We were crawling like crabs, rolling like pencils and hopping like rabbits! It was great fun!
We were also very happy to invite our parents in this month to show them our fabulous Magic carpets! We tried our best to persuade them to buy them and there were lots of purchases made before the day was out!

AN AMAZING APRIL!
Although we only spent a small part of April in school, we still managed to make it amazing! 1st Class B had the best week ever during Active Week and we were definitely all fitter and healthier by the end of it. We particularly enjoyed the Tug of War competitions and the obstacle course on Thursday. We were so excited to welcome the Olympian Natalya Colye  to our school and couldn't believe when she brought an Olympic torch with her and we got to hold it! As always, we've been working hard at Maths. Check out some of the photos of us practising rounding numbers to the nearest 10!

Picture
MAGNIFICENT MARCH
We have been celebrating all things Irish this month-learning lots of songs through Gaeilge, an Irish Haka and we dressed up in all of the green that we could find! We also held our very own assembly with 1st Class A, where we shared our thoughts on why we are proud to come from Ireland. We did a wonderful job performing a beautiful Irish song and everyone thoroughly enjoyed our performance. As we have been working so hard, we are very much looking forward to a well deserved break and we would like to wish everyone a relaxing and enjoyable Easter!

FANTASTIC FEBRUARY!

We have been keeping fit and healthy this month with our 10 @ 10 exercise event. In addition to this we had the tough decision of voting for someone to be a representative in the Active Council. We made posters to show why we should vote for different people and we all voted in our private voting station. Congratulations to Summer who is now our Active Council member after a VERY close competition!
As we have been keeping so active and healthy, it was only fair that the children deserved a treat and so we spent a long time decorating pancakes for Pancake Tuesday! We had lots of fun decorating the pancakes, as you can see from the photos below, but we had even more fun eating them!

JOYFUL JANUARY

Happy New Year everybody! 1st Class B are very happy to start a new year and 2017 has been great fun so far! We have been experimenting in Science trying to melt different solids into liquids. We particularly enjoyed trying to melt the chocolate! :) We have been learning how to tell the time so if you're not sure what time it is-come and ask us!
In History, we have been learning all about the legend of the Children of Lir and we decided to make some art work based on this story. We used a scrunched up tissue paper to make a collage of the lake and because we didn't have enough of the colours that we wanted, we had to open up a 'scrunched up tissue paper shop' where we bought and sold the different coloured tissue paper using our own tissue paper as money! Check out our finished artwork below.

Twas the night before Christmas...
The children performed their Christmas show on Tuesday and they were AMAZING! Not only did they sing beautifully, but they had learned their lines so well and said them so loudly and clearly. A very big WELL DONE to all of 1st Class and thank you very much to our audience of family and friends who took time out of their day to come and watch!
1st Class B would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

WRITE TO READ BOOK LAUNCH
November was a very exciting month as our group of 1st class authours launched their own storybooks that they both wrote AND illustrated! We had some very exciting stories about children on fairy hunts, chicken hunts and even monster hunts! The children were delighted to share their stories with parents who came in and joined us for their Write to Read celebration. Thank you to all who attended!
A Busy October

October has been a very busy month in 1st Class B! We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in lots of different Maths activities during Maths week and we had some great Maths detectives when we went on our Maths trail! Every Tuesday, we have been practicing our ICT skills with our fabulous new tablets and we even used them for silent reading one of the days! As it was Halloween, we learned all of the Irish vocabulary related to Halloween and we also learned a song called 'Oíche Shamhna'. You might have heard us singing it if you were passing through the corridors as we practiced it most days! :)
WELCOME BACK 1ST CLASS B!
We have had a super start to our year in 1st Class B! The children have all settled in really well and are working really hard to do their best work. They are so sensible that they already seem like they are ready for 2nd Class! We've had an exciting few weeks: creating blueberry art work, reading all about the smartest giant in town (meeting giraffes?!?), investigating trees in the garden, attending mass and even going on a Teddy Bears Picnic to Phoenix Park! Although we had to leave our teddies in the classroom to do our lessons while we were gone and you would not believe the mess that they made! Take a look at the photos below...
