Please remember I will be turning off your microphones during show and tell so everyone will have the opportunity to have a quiet audience when they are sharing their show and tell :) If we have any issue with devices not working today don't worry. We will be doing a Zoom every Friday and with practice we will soon be Zoom experts!
1st class parents, I sent the link and password by email yesterday. If you need me to resend it please email me at [email protected] and I would be happy to do so.
See you at 12pm. You will find today's activities below!

Happy Friday 1st Class. Congratulations on another week of absolutely AMAZING work! I must say I was very impressed with all the WOW WORD sentences this week and how fantastic everyone did on their ONOMATOPOEIA worksheet. Well done, you should be very proud of yourselves.
I am EXTREMELY impressed with the lovely messages and cards you have made for Becky. I just know she is going to be absolutely over the moon when she receives them! They are so beautiful and artistic, and I must say very professional looking!!! They are nicer than the ones I have seen in the shop! I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into them.
This week I did not receive many submissions for a Friday gallery, which is absolutely fine as I know your were working very hard on your messages to Becky. But I did receive some photos of an absolutely amazing project that two 1st class students did at home. I am super excited to share them with you. Take a look!!!!

Good morning first class. I hope you are all keeping well and that you had a lovely weekend. Ned and Gilly's happy news is true. Both these lucky duckies have found their wonderful FOREVER families. Which means I will still be able to meet up with them and go for walks in the park. Ned and Gilly absolutely adore all of you in 1st class (OBVIOUSLY) and they made me promise to keep giving them updates on how you are doing. They also promised that they would send regular pictures and messages about the adventures they are getting up to.

Now that you have listened to the story I would like you to answer the following questions:

3. Is Alex successful?
4. Do you think Alex should be allowed to have his own room? Why or why not?
5. Did you enjoy this book? Why or why not?
6. What would you score this book out of 10?

Silly Ned! I hope you are all feeling more awake and ready to work than Ned! Below you will find a Maths activity and a Gaeilge activity for today. Don't be like Ned though. Make sure you don't over do it. Take a movement break or have a snack if you feel like you need to. I have added a yoga exercise video underneath todays work. You can also find some more activities on the green flag page.
Gaeilge: Below you will find some pictures of Mimi the cat. In the pictures Mimi is with food. Some of the food she likes and some of the foods she doesn't like. You can tell by looking at Mimi's facial expression if she likes that food or doesn't like that food. For each picture, in Irish, you are to write whether or not Mimi likes or doesn't like that food. Take a look at the pictures. Underneath is an example of how to write your sentences.
IS maith le..../Ní maith le....
Example:
1. Bainne:
In the first picture I can tell Mimi likes bainne because she is smiling. So I will write: Is maith le Mímí bainne
2. Úll:
In the second picture I can tell Mímí does not like úll because she is scowling. So I will write: Ní maith le Mímí úll.
Your turn: Write a sentence for subh, brioscaí, banana, cáca, calóga, im arán, criospaí, uisce, sicín.
When you are done practice reading each sentence out loud.

Happy Monday 1st class. I hope you had a relaxing weekend. Did you do any fun crafts? Play outside? Watch any movies? Invent any new games? I spent a lot of time in the garden and taking the dogs on walks. I always keep a look out in case I happen to see one of you!!! Fingers crossed I might see one of you if I am lucky :)
As it is Monday I have added our new WOW Words for the week. This weeks Wow Words are NIGHT words. They are dusk, eerie, moonlit, nocturnal, sleepless and twilight. Please take a look at the cartoon below and the definitions of each word. I would like you to try and make a sentence using each of these words. There are 6 words so when you are done you should have 6 sentences. Try and draw your own picture for each word. :)

Remember it's not about how much work you complete, just take your time and try your best. You can always take a little movement break, have a little stretch or a snack and come back and do a little more work when you are ready. :)
Happy Friday everyone!
I hope you are all keeping very well. You won't believe it but you have answered 7, 235 questions on IXL. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! I am over the moon with the hard work you are doing from home. I just wanted to check in and say you are doing absolutely brilliantly. As it is Friday I also wanted to announce the student of the week. You are working so very hard it is an extremely difficult decision. But this weeks student of the week is ALBARAA!!! Congratulations!!! Albarra sent me a sample of the hard work he is doing at home. He wrote a very convincing persuasive letter to his mum persuading her to let him get a cat. I look forward to Albaraa reading it for you when we get back into the classroom and I look forward to everyone getting the opportunity to share their hard work with one another.
Since it is Friday and we usually do Art if you have a chance today set a little time aside to CREATE something. I was thinking perhaps finding items in nature (leaves, twigs, flower petals, stones) to build/write you name with.
Have a lovely day and a lovely weekend. Be safe my friends, Chat again on Monday!

Good morning my 1st class friends. I hope you and your families are well today. There continues to be a lot of action on IXL. It’s great to turn on my computer and see your names pop up!!! We have lots of work to keep us busy at the moment so I don’t want to be adding to list and causing any unnecessary stress. I just want to remind you it’s not about how much work you get done. It’s just about picking a time to work and sitting down and focusing on your work in that time frame. I understand that not everyday will be the same. Some days you may have more of an opportunity to get more work done and some days you may not. I hope you are getting outside and enjoying some of this lovely mild spring weather we are having. Mr. Nolan has put up some lovely exercises to keep you active. You can
find them on the Active Flag part of the website .
You are so very fabulous at your classroom jobs it makes me wonder if you have any jobs at home these days. I’ll have to ask about that the next time we see each other! Below is the list of work you have to keep you busy.
Below is a picture of Gilly out enjoying the sunshine. She loves being outside when the weather is nice!!!!

Monday March 23rd 2020,
Good morning my favourite people! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Usually on Monday mornings we get to have a little chat about what you got up to on the weekend but since we aren’t in class I guess I’ll have to use my imagination. Did anyone get their drivers license? Go skydiving? Enter a cake eating contest? Go fishing? Build a fort ? Climb a magic beanstalk? Clean their room? Mess their room?
We took the dogs for a lovely walk in the sunshine yesterday and did a little bit of gardening. Here are Ned and Gilly enjoying the outdoors. Can you see Dash in the photo? He is hiding. Look very closely :) Did you find him?
Due to popular demand below you will find this weeks WOW WORDS cartoons. This weeks wow words are Cloudy Words - billowing, dense, hazy, overcast, swirling, and wispy. Please look over the cartoons and the definitions of each word below. Your wow word challenge is to write a sentence for each word. There are 6 words so you should have 6 sentences when you are done. Take a look outside. What does the sky look like. Can you use any of your wow words to describe it?
In addition to your wow word challenge you also have your English and Maths packages and IXL you can work on. Remember it's not about how much you get done every day. Just take your time and try your best. If you need to take a movement break DO! You can also always get in contact with me through email. If you have a question or something you want to share with me you can get someone in your family to help you message me at [email protected].
Have a lovely day my friends,

Happy Friday 1st Class! Once again I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at how much work has been done on IXL :) As of this morning 1, 714 question have been answered ! Well done to you. I know not everyone is using IXL as you may be working on your homework packages or the activities I leave here on the school website. But it is very important to do some first class work each and every school day.
As you know on Friday at the end of the day we have our awards and student of the week. Even though we are not in class I would like to continue this tradition. It will take some thinking about so I will have to do a bit of brainstorming to come up with a system that will work while we are all doing our work from home :) This week I have decided to award the student of the week to the person who has answered the most questions on IXL. I know not everyone is on IXL so to keep things fair the student of the week will not always be based on IXL.
Soooooooo this weeks student of the week for answering the most IXL questions is MOHAMED KHALIFA!!!! Congratulations Mohamed you have been working very hard! And a big WELL DONE to everyone who has been doing work from home. I know this is very new and very different but we are still 1st Class and we have always been a very dedicated and hard working class so I know we will continue to try our best.
I miss all our lovely chats and opportunities to share our news with one another so I thought I would share a little news with you all. As you know we have lovely greyhound Gilly staying with us until she finds her FOREVER family but GUESS WHAT!!!! There is also another new 4 legged friend in the house. Meet NED!

Ned will be living with us until he finds his FOREVER family. He is 4 years old and as you can see his favourite toy is mouse. I know it's hard to believe there is another greyhound in the house. I had to be very PERSUASIVE (try saying it: PER-SWAY-SIV) to CONVINCE Sean to agree to another greyhound.
Do you remember when we talked about the word PERSUASIVE and practiced how to use it? Below you will find a read aloud of I WANNA IGUANA about Alex PERSUADING his mom to let him have Stinky's pet iguana. I would like you to watch and listen to it again. After you have listened to the story I would like you to brainstorm and think of an animal you would like to have in the house. Is it a mouse? An alligator ? A sloth? An elephant!? Draw a picture of your chosen animal. Don't forget to give it a name and come up with some adjectives to describe it. Once you have done that I want you to write a short letter to someone is your house to practice your persuasive skills. Come up with at least 3 reasons you should be allowed to have this animal. Here is an example of how I PERSUADED Sean to let Ned come stay for a visit.
Dear kind hearted Sean,
Since we are both working from home right now this is the PERFECT time to foster another dog. We will both be home the whole time so we can make sure he doesn't make a mess. Also, since we are both at home we can walk the dogs together. No one will have to walk the dogs alone. It's easy peezy to walk 3 dogs when we will have 4 arms every time. Plus, if we don't take Ned he will be stuck in kennels the whole time. He will be terribly sad and lonely. You don't want NED to be sad and lonely do you ??? Why have Ned be sad and alone when we are both at home to keep him company! So what do you say? PLEAAASEEEEEEEEEEE!
Your dog loving and super hopeful wife,
Sheila
Ok! Now it's your turn. Watch the read aloud and get THINKING PERSUASIVELY!

Dear Parents,
I hope you and your family are keeping safe and well. Please pass on my warm regards to your son or daughter on my behalf and let them know I miss them terribly. I am pleased to share with you that during our time away from the classroom environment we will be using a website called IXL. IXL is a comprehensive learning programme offering unlimited maths and English practice across thousands of skills—all of which are aligned to the national curriculum. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from the comfort of home and continue to learn and I will be able to observe and respond to their progress.
To get your child started on your home computer, please follow these easy steps:
1. Go to https://www.ixl.com
2. Enter your child's username and password and click "Sign in."
I will be sending your child's user name and password via a Scoil Treasa text message.
3. Click on any skill to start learning!
For on-the-go practice, you can download IXL’s free tablet apps for iPad, Android or Kindle and sign in with your child’s username and password. IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The programme is adaptive and will adjust based on your child's demonstrated understanding of the material. All of your child's results will be saved, so you can monitor his or her progress anytime by clicking on Analytics.
I hope you'll encourage your son or daughter to use IXL regularly while we are away from the classroom environment.
If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to email me at [email protected].
Keep safe and warm regards,
Sheila Duggan

Welcome back for a new year. Hard to believe it's a year since the children first started in Scoil Treasa Naofa!! They've all come back so enthusiastic about the new year ahead. Keep checking in with us here online as there will be pictures, news stories and updates on what's happening. See you soon :)
Vocabulary Of the week
Each week we will be learning 5 new words based on a book we are reading. We do activities based on the new vocabulary and we also try and use it where possible. I would be very grateful if you at home could use these words with your children and practice them. Thank you.
Week 1 and 2
Roam, terror, trembling, weak, grim, hatch, devoured, appetising, scavenging, baffle, industrious.

The new bench: As I was setting up the new classroom for this year I came across a little bench. I spent some time debating whether or not it would be of much use and would the children use it. I have gotten my answer. Look at our early finishers...
Pattern:
We have spent the last couple of weeks learning about pattern. Some of the children amazed me with the patterns they came up with. Below are some pictures of some of the patterns the children came up with in their pairs.

What we can see below is an assortment of pictures from October. We have some of our Halloween party and some of the children taking part in Aistear. Amongst our Aistear pictures we have a garden swing that was made during Junk Art and a castle which was built using waffle blocks in construction. Both of these stand out to me as they are original ideas from the children. We spent 3 weeks on the topic of Homes and these were built/made in the last week. To see what had been made up until the last week you would understand the originality behind these constructions. Well done to all involved.

November Writing Celebration
I would like to thank everyone who came along to our Writing Celebration. The children had spent a long time working on their stories and were so happy to get to share them with you. I was so proud of them as I'm sure you were too, especially when looking back to last year and the improvement that has been made. On behalf of the authors and myself, go raibh míle maith agaibh!

Grandparents Day
Ba mhaith liom buíochas mór a ghabháil leis na sean-tuismeathóirí go léir a tháinig isteach an tseachtain seo chaite.
We had a great time. It is so lovely for the children to get to show you things and tell you all about their school life. The excitement, happiness and enthusiasm in the class that day was just fantastic, it was so clear to see how proud each and every one of you are of your grandchildren. They work so hard and are so kind, fun and friendly, they really are a credit to all of you.

The Farm/An Feirm:
As you can see below there are a collection of photos from the theme FARM in Aistear. With February being the first season of Spring and of new life, it was a great theme to get our teeth into.
Gymnastics: I have posted pictures on the Active flag page of our class doing gymnastics. The reason why I am alluding to it here is because I would like to make you aware of the HUGE improvement the children have made. Our school slogan is Movement is Improvement and that is a mantra we have really stuck to this year in Senior Infants. We, myself included, have worked on improving basic movement skills and patterns and balance. It is something we will continue to work on throughout the year as it is of significant importance throughout our whole life.
March Madness
oMarch has been a very busy month for us here in Senior Infants. We finished our Junior Achievement with Avril, we celebrated Seachtain Na Gaeilge and we were very busy working as doctors in Aistear. Big well done to Maisie Barrett, Zuzanna Motowilzuk and Kayla Ennis who were all awarded with Gailgeoir na Seactaine during the month of March. They have been making such a super effort to speak Irish. Keep up the good work!! We are looking forward to taking a nice long break for the Easter holidays!!
Hooray for Pancakes!!
It's that time of the year again where we can eat as much pancakes as we can and no one can say anything to us!! This year was no different. We topped our delicious pancakes with jam, butter, sugar and of course the most popular nutella. We ended up with nutella on our hands and face and even our clothes. It was worth it though. We're already looking forward to next years pancakes.
Aistear Activities
We are kept really busy in Aistear at the minute. During the month of January we were learning about the Arctic and Antarctica. It was so cool!! We did lots of researching and found out loads of interesting facts about the animals, the weather and lots more. For the month of February we are busy working on the farm. We can't believe how much has to be done. We're milking cows, collecting eggs, shearing sheep, planting vegetables and much more!! It's tiring work. We hope the animals appreciate it!
Great Success!
A huge well done to all the junior and senior infants who took part in their nativity play. They were absolutely super! Everyone did a great job and we were all so proud of them. For the last few days they are more than entitled to relax after all the hard work they put in. I'm sure we will think of lots of nice things to do before the Christmas holidays and if we're lucky we might even get a visit from a certain someone!!
Writing Celebration
In November we were working really hard on our narrative stories. We loved thinking of cool characters and settings to include in our writing. We had a writing celebration at the end of November so our moms and dads could see all the hard work we've been doing. They were very proud and loved all the stories we had written. There's definitely a few authors in the making in Senior Infants!
Happy Halloween!
We are so happy that the month of October is nearly over because we are so excited for Halloween!! We did lots of cool Halloween activities the last week of school to get us in the spirit! We carved a pumpkin, made spooky ghost buns and dressed up on the last day of school. Some of us looked so scary!! We did lots of other stuff in October too. We did a maths trail for maths week. It was a little tricky but in the end we worked out all the answers. We were busy building houses in Aistear. We can now build terraced houses, detached and semi detached houses and even flats, so if you need a builder you know who to call! Have a look at what we got up to below. We hope everyone has a spooky Halloween!
Super September
We can't believe how quick the month of September has gone! We have had a very busy month but it's been great! We went on our Teddy Bear's Picnic to Phoenix Park. We played games, played in the playground and had a yummy lunch on the grass. Even our teddies had a great time who were still in the middle of a party when we returned! Senior Infants won 5 medals in September for super attendance and having a great line. As a reward they got to have an ice cream party. Chocolate sauce and sprinkles were a very popular topping choice! We can't wait to win another 5 medal so we can have another party.
Fáilte
A big welcome back to all the senior infants! They have all gotten so tall over the summer. We are so happy to welcome a new boy to our class. His name is Kayden and we're sure we'll all be great friends. We were sorry to say goodbye to our friend Adam but we're sure he'll be happy in his new school. We have lots of exciting things planned for the coming year so keep an eye on here to see what we're up to! Here's to a great year.
